apa sebenarnya maksud perumpamaan ini? sememangnya ular
menyusur akar, memang takkan hilang bisanya...adakah sama
maknanya dgn perumpamaan 'a leopard can't change his spots'?

perumpamaan- courtesy of Mansaira's post.

Nota BM Sekolah Menengah Tingkatan Empat
Peribahasa:
"Jika ular menyusur akar, tidak akan hilang bisanya"
Maksud:
Orang yang besar atau mulia tidak akan hilang martabatnya
jika ia merendahkan dirinya sekalipun

[Just my imagination going active]  I think the origins of this proverb mungkin berasal dari zaman malays still duduk kat kampung tepi hutan/sungai dulu2. Since they have to venture into the jungle to hunt for animals/birds and gather fruits/herbs, they have to be aware of their surroundings as not to get hurt where help is scarce. e.g. beware of snakes (takut kena patuk), beware of akar pokok (takut tersadung/tripped and get injured).  However, it would be more dangerous to watch out only for snakes and to think less of akar pokok as snakes often "menyusur" akar to camouflage themselves while resting/preying upon other animals.  Thus, it is wise to bear in mind, that a snake ..... even if it is amongst the akar, is still as poisonous.

[example:  Senior Production Engineer if gi makan reramai kat kedai mamak with his operator pengeluaran pun will not make him any less than who he really is?]

Proverb:
" a leopard cannot change its spots"
Meaning:
The notion that things cannot change their innate nature.

This one has a different meaning from "ular menyusur akar".  Maybe the closest BM proverbs are:
1.  takkan buaya menolak bangkai
2.  arang dibasuh bagaimanapun takkan putih

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

mansairaku:
seems like both mod Seri and mod Agul are thinking on the same line ..:re:
*cough* err...it's a full name = mansairaku *cough *cough*
(mansairaku = a villain in anime)
