Professional jealous

The two blue-eyed actresses were seen quarreling with each other in front of their common patron, Ram Gopal Verma. Every one is aware that Urmila Matondar is the first discovery of Ramu. He patronized her. However, Ramu shifted from her and preferred Antara Mali later. How could Urmila bear it? She thought that Antara is responsible for creating a gap between her and her mentor Ramu. Recently, Urmila went to see Ramu, who was found sitting along Antara discussing his latest movie 'Naach' starring Antara. This enraged Urmila who asked Antara to leave Ramu and her alone. Antara sought time to complete her discussion and then quit. Urmila turned crazy and started shouting at Antara, presumably she could not tolerate her junior to dare say this. However, Ramu made peace between them.

Salman wins Shilpa

Salman may have failed with many Bollywood girls to win their hearts, but has succeeded in impressing his latest love Shilpa Shetty. Both of them have been admiring each other. This was witnessed during the shoot of 'Garv' starring Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty. Shilpa says, " Salman is very good at heart". Salman is not behind in praising Shilpa, and is trying to get her many a film offer. This is good for both-Salman has a girlfriend in Shilpa and the latter a patron to get her more films.

Will Bipasha be out?

The way the audience is rejecting the films with indecent show of skin, it appears the sexy girl Bipasha might go out of the film world. A recent survey of films with extreme body exposure shows that the viewers are tired of them and are turning allergic to them. The survey is based on the response to the recent movies like 'Ajnabi', 'Raaj', 'Jaanasheen', and 'Oops'. Besides, Bipasha's 'Aetbaar' and 'Ishq Hai Tumse' flopped at the box office despite her best efforts to present her as the sexiest bomb of Bollywood. This is enough for Bipasha to learn to change her style; otherwise she might be out of the movie world.

SALMAN DOING 2 FILMS WITH SHILPA

The angry young man of Bollywood is humouros too. While he is known as the most controversial man, he has certain plus points also. Since, his licence was seized by the traffic police for committing murder on road by rash driving, Salman has been now cycling to the studio for shooting. He has a number of acting offers. He has been busy earlier in his home production titled 'Lucky No Time For Love' soon after his return from Russia; Salman will devote his full attention to the shoot of 'Garv-Pride And Honor'.

He has been very happy with the positive response he got for his latest screened movie 'Tere Naam'. He may have lost to Miss world Aishwarya Rai, but he has now on his side a well-known item girl. Though no need to mention her name, she is Shilpa Shetty. Salman is doing films with Shilpa and they are 'Shaadi Kar ke Phus Gaya Re' and 'Garv'. Salman said that though he has played a cop in both films--- 'Patthar Ke Phool' of his young age and 'Garv' when he has matured, there is a huge difference between the two characters. Yes, he is right. He has definitely improved his acting since then. The character of a cop in the latter movies indicates the maturity of the actor.

Preity prettier in saree

Preity Zinta is the most popular face in Bollywood these days. People wait anxiously to see him on any occasion. Recently she was spotted at an awards ceremony to bag one. But everyone was shocked though with joy. They saw their young pretty heroine in an unusual dress. She was wearing a saree this time. No body had ever watched her in a saree. This prompted even Jaya Bachchan there to go near her and wish her in saree. Jaya congratulated her looking very sweet in saree than any other dress. Preity confessed that she had worn saree for the first time in her life.

Now, Shah Rukh will endorse good health

Bollywood superstar to feature in 3 public health spots, shot by Health Ministry and UNICEF

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 3: Besides endorsing colas, biscuits and cars on TV, you will now see Shah Rukh Khan in a new avtarthis time, selling good health. Starting tomorrow, the Bollywood superstar will deliver three public service messages on child immunisation.

The campaign, shot jointly by the Health Ministry and UNICEF, follows the success of Amitabh Bachchans appearance for the fight against polio. Shah Rukh Khan is a mass icon. Immunisation is a message for young parents especially children, and he is popular with both, said P K Hota, Secretary, Health.

While polio campaigns have gained momentum, routine immunisationprotecting infants from six diseaseshas not shown any improvement in the past three decades. According to latest data, only 53 per cent children are fully immunised in the country. The situation is worse in Bihar (11.6 pc), Rajasthan (17.3 pc) and UP (22 pc).

If you need immediate impact, associating a health message with an icon rather than a faceless worker translates into behavioural change, said an official.

In fact, the Health Ministrys household survey on polio showed that ural population associated the polio campaign with Bachchan. When asked how they got to know about it, they said through Amitabh Bachchans message on TV

Sushmita dazzles

After the way she made the sari an object of irresistibility in Main Hoon Na, mere mentions of sensuality bring Sushmita Sen's stunning image to mind.

Fashion designer Gazala was lucky to have Sush take to the ramp for a charity fashion show. With the proceeds going to AIDS patients, the show was held at a Mumbai hotel this weekend.

Sush sparkled in a sheer embroidered sari, and is seen here with her daughter, Renee.

Abhishek Bachchan also made an appearance at the do, as did Juhi Chawla and her husband Jai Mehta.

Sushmita in talks over Hollywood film with Gere

Mumbai: Hollywood actor Richard Gere and former Miss Universe and Bollywood star Sushmita Sen are set to act together in a major Hollywood film.

"Sushmita will be acting in a movie in which Richard Gere is also playing a big role," said Neelam, Sen's secretary.

She did not give details but said Sen was in Singapore to negotiate details of the contract.

The Daily News and Analysis quoted Sen as confirming the role. "Yes, I won't deny it. Things are not on paper yet," Sen told the daily on Monday.

"All I can say is that it is a major Hollywood studio production and I will be acting with Richard Gere. In another two months, I shall give you the minutest details."

The paper also quoted Sen as saying she had bagged a project with Robert De Niro's daughter but did not give details.

Shah Rukh Khan's public interest campaign

Shah Rukh Khan will be seen in yet another ad. This time it is not a beauty soap or a cola endorsement but a public service ad for polio prevention. This campaign has been shot by the Health Ministry and UNICEF. He will be a part of three messages that will educate the public about child immunization. The state of affairs relating to health is not so good in the country. Only 53% of the children are immune. Considering the craze for Bollywood stars in the country, Shah Rukh is the ideal choice for this campaign.

Khan will appear as different characters in the ads. In the first ad, he plays a co-passenger, driver and conductor, in the second ad he plays a doctor, a wardboy and a compounder and in the last ad he plays a south Indian at a cinema and then a ticket checker. Officials are confident that the presence of Shah Rukh Khan will generate awareness. At least it's a start.

Bachchan to play Rajnikant's role in Chandramukhi?

When it comes to remaking the phenomenal hit from Tamil cinema, Chandramukhi, in Hindi, the filmmakers can only think of Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role that Rajnikant played in the original.

The new Rajnikant fantasy Chandramukhi (no relation to the Salman Khan dud of the same name!) has already grossed over Rs 700 million across the southern state. And it is still rocking.

The film, originally made in Malayalam as Manichitrathazhu in 1993 and in Kannada as Aapta Mitra in 2003, was turned into a Tamil-Telugu money-spinner in 2004.

Now the coveted Hindi rights of Chandramukhi have gone to South's well-known ad maker Narren Aditya. A hefty sum of Rs 10 million exchanged hands between the producer Appachan, who owns copyrights for the original and Hyderabad's affluent production house Creative Commercials, before Chandramukhi  was Narren Aditya's to film in Hindi.

And now Narren is stationed in Mumbai to finalise Bollywood's behemoth for the Hindi Chandramukhi.

"It will have to be none other than Mr Amitabh Bachchan," he told IANS.

"No one has the stature and superstardom to carry off a role of such immeasurable fantasy and flamboyance. I don't think I can make the Hindi Chandramukhi unless Mr. Bachchan agrees to play the lead," said Narren who has so far only made ad films.

"I won't rest easy until Mr Bachchan says yes."

"Now I'm suddenly making two films in Hindi. One is Chandramukhi. And the other is an epic love story that I've named Saaz. It is set during the Goan liberation movement. It's the story of a Goan boy, a Goan girl and a Portuguese officer."

Sahara is to produce the film.

Narren hasn't decided on the rest of the cast. But he has found the young actor whom he considers to be the best bet for the young Goan lover-boy. "The minute I saw Sammir Dattani, I immediately knew he was the face for the lead in Saaz. It's a face that tempts the camera. I'd certainly like him to play the lead."

Amitabh Bachan

Biking is John Abraham's passion

John Abraham says he enjoys long nighttime motorcycle rides when he's not shooting a film.

The actor says he fell in love with bikes when he was 10, but only got to ride one for the first time when he turned 12. "My cousin had a great bike ... I fell in love with bikes since then," a newspaper quoted Abraham as saying. Of course, ride motorcycles long enough, and you're bound to take a few spills. Abraham's first came when he tried a few stunts, including the ever-popular "wheelie."

Abraham said he makes sure he rides at least twice a week around one or two in the morning, adding that Bipasha Basu indulges him.

"She doesn't mind. She understands my passion," said Abraham.

SETBACK TO AAMIR'S MARRIAGE

Soon after the premiere of ' The Rising-Mangal Pandey' in London, Aamir Khan announced that he would marry on December 28th this year with her girlfriend Kiran Rao. Though she already has a live in relationship with him, yet the marriage news seems to have had a setback . Sources close to Aamir haven't reacted to this news. Industry circles wonder if the marriage setback is due to reports from London saying that he has fathered a child there from a British journalist. Anyway, it's true that Kiran has been staying at Aamir's bungalow at Pali Hills in Mumbai for quite some time.

Incidentally, Aamir had accepted her at an international film festival last year. This is to recall that Aamir divorced his wife Reena who has two children from him, presumably for this reason. Kiran hails from Delhi where she got educated academically followed by professional lessons in journalism. She had a stint with Reuters, and left it for the film industry. First, director Ashutosh Gowarikar utilized her talent as his assistant director in 'Lagaan' starring Aamir Khan. Thus, she came close to Aamir and then both worked together in 'Saathiya' and 'Swades'.

Koirala in Nepalese 'Mother India'

Recall Mehboob Khan's 'Mother India' starring Nargis and Sunil Dutt. This was made more than four decades ago, and was based on the epic story of a village family's struggle. Now, the same is being made in Nepalese under the title of 'Nepal Amma'. Manisha Koirala is playing the central character of Radha ( Nargis) , according to Nepalese actor-director Neer Shah. Only two members of the cast have been selected so far. Shah will himself play the part of the villain (moneylender) Lala, who was the cause of much of the woes of Nargis and her family. The director has not been chosen as yet for the film that will first be shot in Nepalese and then dubbed in Hindi. Indian village dance, such as, Nautanki, will be added to it to meet today's demand of the audience.

Aftab's new love

The chocolate hero Aftab Shivdasani is in love. No, Shamita Shetty is his past now. It is said that the new girl in his life is so beautiful and sexy that she keeps Aftaab always smiling (giving Muskaan). He has been in the UK for a month shooting for his movie 'Shukriya' (Thank you). He says his parents bought him a jet black Mercedez on his birthday. Incidentally, the family has a special significance for the figure 25 as their parents birthdays also fall on 25th, though of different months.

NRI to make Aamir-starrer

Angad Paul, a management expert, has announced the launch of a film in Hindi and English, which will star Aamir Khan in the lead role. Producer of the highly acclaimed British film "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch", Paul is son of an NRI industrialist Lord Swaraj Paul. According to Angad, the movie 'Rang De Basanti' (paint it yellow) is the story of the youth of today juxtaposed against the youth that fought for India's freedom. This is to recall that this song was on the lips of freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and his colleague Raj Guru, who were hanged during the British rule. They sang this song before being hanged. The shooting of the movie will commence in October this year. Paul, Nilesh Dadhich and Rakeysh Mehra will head the cast, and the production would be under the banner of MPD Films. Mehra has made over 200 commercials in his 15-year-long career as an ad man. Both Paul and Dadhich are NRIs

Akshay says no to anti-Pak movies

Bollywood film khiladi Akshay Kumar has said that he is not interested in acting in propaganda movies that show either India or Pakistan in poor light. It is learnt that the Bollywood khiladi bowled Pakistanis over with his charming responses at a recent tete-a-tete. In his usual style, he cracked jokes, laughed and kept switching from English to Urdu to Punjabi. He told the media that his first visit to Pakistan "was like a dream come true".

Priyanshu happy in Sippy's 'Woh'

Priyanshu Chatterji is already four -film old, yet he admits that he doesn't know much about Bollywood. He acted in 'Tum Bin' (his debut), 'Dil Ka Rishta', 'Aap Ko Pahle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai' and 'Pinjar'. He was lucky to get favorable reviews for his performances. But he felt sorry that he was missing in the movie's publicity (promos). He says he got the best offer in 'Woh', and very much likes Raj Sippy who gave him a good deal of freedom unlike Anubhav Sinha who directed his two movies but did not allow him to interact at all.

COP AKSHAY AS AVATAR OF DHARMENDRA

Akshay Kumar is being described as an avatar of Dharmendra. He is very optimistic about 2004. His hands are full with a number of good movies, and two of them are big ones and are antithetical films titled 'Bewafaa' and 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi'. He is busy trying to complete work on a third film 'Aan: Men At Work', that has been hanging for quite some time. 'Khakee' has proved to be a turning point in his career though earlier he considered that Suneel Darshan's 'Jaanwar' had been a turning point in his filmi life. After 'Khakee', the critics declared that Akshay could hold on his own in spite of a formidable cast.

He is proud of his performance of a cop in 'Khakee'. But he gives the credit to his director Raj Santoshi for making his character so complete. Akshay says, "I play a cop in 'Police Force' and 'Aan'. But they are different from each other and from 'Khakee'. Why? He answers, "Apart from the colour of my uniform, there's no similarity among the three films. That's quite a change from my pre-'Jaanwar' days when I used to have a cop's uniform hanging constantly in my make-up van. Playing a cop in 'Khakee', 'Police Force' and 'Aan' and playing the same role in my earlier films were two entirely different experiences for me, as I'm sure they are for the audience."

WILL MADHURI REACH THE TOP

The news of comeback of the until recently Queen Bee Madhuri Dixit to the film world is heartening for the film industry as a whole, and to her large number of fans spread over the continent. She has several points of strength as compared to her contemporaries. She is the one who has made a special place for herself irrespective of the hero he acts with. She is among the few yesteryear female stars that became immortal due to their sheer performance. The credit for their hit movies goes to them rather than those who have played heroes opposite them. Nargis, Meena Kumari and Madhubala are a few of them. They became immortal in different sectors. Well, Madhuri Dixit is not far behind them. She was last seen on the screen in the character of a notch girl named Chandramukhi in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus, 'Devdas'.

Dixit is still popular among top directors because of her performance. She can make a movie hit even without a known hero, and that's one of the few characteristics of a classic heroine. A-list directors of the Mumbai film industry are enamored of her. According to them, she still retains the charm of a big box office phenomenon as in the 1990s? A section of the media has rightly described Madhuri Dixit as the only actress in the history of popular Hindi Cinema who has been virtually at par with the leading men she shared screen space with over the years.

Madhuri has emerged as a one-women industry, an actress whose very name on the marquee could sell a film. The director could have made a film with a non-star only if Madhuri were there to ensure its commercial success. She is the one who could easily work in all types of movies, whether they are big or small, comedy or tragedy, with a big cast or with a small one. Though Madhuri is married and has a child besides a loving husband, she doesn't want to just remain a housewife. She is ambitious and seems to have decided to distance herself from Bollywood's commercial set-up. Since she has been versatile, she needs to explore other meaningful roles to continue to shine as before. She must rise above petty considerations of getting awards and hitting theatres with her sexy performances.

She must move towards making an art film so that she can show to her fans that she is equally well versed in doing this. Since she never managed to do a film that could fall into the category of classic films which are above the vagaries of time and the audience taste. This is the only way for an artiste to become immortal in the film industry. Had Sanjay Leela Bhansali been a little kind to her and cared to turn his 'Devdas' into a classic rather than a hit movie, Madhuri Dixit would have indeed been called a super star only slightly below Amitabh Bachchan.. She possesses certain rare qualities, which our yesteryear actresses had in the past. She has combined them in one. She smiles like Madhubala, has inner beauty of Suchitra Sen and acting talent of Nargis. Still, she just missed the bus.

Akshay: The Philanthropist

The action 'Khiladi' has a heart of gold too. While shooting in Manali, he met a fan, Puran Chauhan, who lost a leg in an accident when he was five years old.But despite his handicap, Chauhan learnt martial arts by watching Akki's films. Akshay Kumar was overwhelmed by Chauhan's determination and has asked director Anil Sharma to give him a role in his film, 'Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyon'.

PRIYANKA CHOPRA GIVES A SHOCK

The quote "if the role demands" has become one big catch phrase amongst the heroines, mostly in Bollywood. After freely showing skins, they cover up with an excuse saying that the role demanded so. The latest to quote this phrase, is Priyanka Chopra. Former Miss India Priyanka Chopra has shocked the industry as well as society by her latest statement that she can go 'full nude'. Fortunately, her statement has a catch. She says she will do it 'if the role demands'. This is to recall that she has been described as a conservative actress inasmuch as her past record is concerned.

It appears that she has changed following her film 'Andaaz' opposite Akshay Kumar during last year. In this movie, she realized that glamour could fetch her roles and fame. Soon followed 'Apuroopam' in Tollywood, opposite Madhukar. To quote her statement to the press, she said, "I am ready to go full nude if the role demands it. But, if it doesn't require so, there is no point in being unnecessarily glamorous. The producers, directors these days have some- how convinced the new girls, that they need to be in their bare essentials in order to survive in the industry."

She adds that the producer and the director request her to look glamorous and expose some skin for the sake of commerciality. She isn't wrong. Who doesn't know that well known director-producer like Mahesh Bhatt wanted the famous "17 kisses" fame Mallika Sherawat to go full nude in a swimming pool scene in her forthcoming film 'Murder'. And, on the sets when she was supposed to undress she got tense and backed off. Not only this, the producer of "Julie" with model Neha Dhupia made her sign the contract that she wouldn't object and back off from any of the bold scenes that have to be shot in the film. This all is to attract crowd to the theatres. Now, the women artistes have to take a tough decision.

Priyanka Chopra: What Split????

Media reports that she has "split" with Harry Baweja's son Harman Baweja has Priyanka Chopra in splits.
"Where was there an affair for us to have split?" her laughter rings loud clear and unambiguous from Singapore where she's shooting with Hrithik Rosshan for Krissh. "Rakeshji is really making us both work hard. We start early in the morning and go on till late in the night. There's no time to think about affair-shaffair, huh?"

She can't believe sections of the media are still writing about her alleged romance with Baweja Jr's . "First they link us then they split us. Arrey I've alaways said Harman is a dear friend, and he continues to be just that."

Priyanka arrived in Singapore from the US where her father is currently undergoing treatment. "He'll be there with mom for another month. Hopefully, after that he'll be completely cured," the concerned daughter sighs.

Manoj Bajpai is versatile

Manoj Bajpai is indeed versatile inasmuch as he played Rashid, a Pakistani in 'Pinjar', and will soon be seen as a token Pakistani who visits India to meet his fiance in Yash Chopra's yet untitled film with Preity Zinta and Shah Rukh Khan. This is his guest appearance though. Bajpai justifies his guest appearance as he idolised the filmmaker since his childhood. He elaborates that he got entry into Yashji's office after the success of 'Satya'. "I grew up on a regular diet of Chopra's blockbusters such as 'Silsila', 'Deewar', 'Kabhie Kabhie' and 'Daag'. "It is only a guest appearance and I don't expect much out of the film. Still, it is a dream come true," asserts Bajpai. He is looking forward to the shooting of Ritesh Sinha's 'All Alone' and Dharmesh Darshan's 'Bewaafa'. In 'Bewaafa', Bajpai plays to the gallery with the usual singing and dancing. He has also signed Markhand Despande's 'Hanan' and Pankaj Parasher's 'Intequam'.
